Isaac Bashevis Singer

Dr. Richard Brodesky

The only Yiddish writer to have received the Nobel Prize for Literature, Isaac Bashevis Singer is a delight. His novels and short stories recreate the lost world of Eastern European Jewry as well as the challenges faced by new Jewish immigrants in the United States. We will examine both his short stories and a major novel. We’ll enjoy and share these materials. This course culminates in a special showing of the film The Muses of Isaac Bashevis Singer by Shaul Better and Asaf Galay. Open to all levels of experience with literature.
